Not of Brute Strength, but Inner Strength
The great and holy men who walked this earth were not all defined by sheer physical strength. Many of them were outwardly weak, frail, and unimposing. Yet, despite their visible physical limitations, they possessed something far greater—astute, mature spirits that anchored them with stability and unwavering resolve.
Today, the Lord calls our attention to the need for true strength, not the kind measured by muscle or endurance, but the strength that comes from within. As co-laborers with Christ and bearers of light and truth, we must seek the kind of strength the Apostle Paul prayed for in Ephesians 3:16—“that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might by His Spirit in the inner man.”
Physical strength alone does not guarantee a victorious life. Discipline, tenacity, and even extreme self-control may have their place, but they will not sustain us in the realm of the spirit. The enemy is not intimidated by our ability to wake up early, eat little, exercise rigorously, or practice meditation. These things, while beneficial, do not hold sway in the kingdom of darkness.
Even mental resilience and rational intelligence will not be enough – for sooner or later, every one of us will be stretched to our breaking point. And when that moment comes, the forces pressing against us will not merely be physical or emotional; they will be spiritual. In the face of such trials, human reasoning will falter, physical strength will diminish, and mortal energies will dissipate like mist before a storm.
Surviving the coming days will require more than external fortitude. These will be days of intense and peculiar pressure-relentless temptations, frustrating trials, and an insidious hunger for godlessness. Lawlessness will attempt to infiltrate even the foundations God has been building in us for years. Only those with inner strength, cultivated through an intentional partnership with the Holy Spirit, will endure.
If you truly desire to be strong, then let your priority be the strength of your spirit. Brute strength may fail, but inner strength—rooted in God—will sustain you through every storm.
